Preamble

^ REGULATIONS FOR MCA DEGREE COURSES (2010-2011)


1. Eligibility for Admission to the Course


A candidate who has passed the Undergraduate Degree Examination in any degree with Mathematics at +2 level or any degree with at least one Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) paper in Maths / Business Maths / Statistics at degree level (Course title) as main subject of this university or an examination of any other university accepted by the Board of Management as Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to Post-Graduate degree in Master of Computer Applications


^ 2. Duration of the course


The course shall consist of six semesters covering a total of three Academic Years. Each academic year shall Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) be divided into two semesters, the First, Third and Fifth semesters from July to November and the Second, Fourth and sixth semester from December to April. Each semester shall Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) have 90 working days covering 450 instructional hours. The practical examination shall be conducted at the end of each semester.

The medium of Instruction and Examination shall be English.


4. Course of Study and Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) Examination


The course of study shall be in accordance with the syllabus prescribed from time to time. The course consists of Core, Elective, Project (Minor and Major), Internship, Summer Training, Industrial Visit Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course), Computer Science. The above are spread out in first, second, third semesters and a self study paper: Emerging Trends in computer applications and the project work shall be undertaken in the final Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) semester.



  1. Core

Core consists of theory and practical and the examinations shall be conducted at the end of each semester.


  1. Minor Project

The students shall undertake minor project during the Fifth semester. The viva Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) shall be conducted at the end of the Fifth semester.


  1. ^ Project Work (Major)

The candidates shall undertake the project work in the sixth Semester either in the Department concerned or Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) in Industries, Institute or any other Organizations and the project report shall be submitted at the end of the sixth semester.


In case the candidate undertakes the project work outside the Department, the Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) teacher concerned within the Department shall be the Main guide and the teacher/scientist under whom the work is carried out will be the Co-guide. The candidate shall bring the attendance certificate Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) from the place of project work carried out.


^ 5. Requirements to appear for the University Examinations.



  1. A candidate will be permitted to take the University Examination of any semester, if


i) He Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course)/she secures not less than 75% of attendance during the semester. In the case of married women students the minimum attendance requirement shall be 55% of the total instructional days


ii) His/ her conduct has been satisfactory.


b Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course). A candidate who has secured attendance between 74% and 65% (both included), due to medical reasons (Hospitalization / Accident / Specific Illness), shall be permitted to take the examination on the recommendation of the Head Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) of the Department to condone the lack of attendance as well as on the payment of the prescribed condonation fees to the University. The Head of the Department has to verify and certify Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) the genuineness of the case before recommending for condonation.


c. However, a candidate who has secured attendance between 50% and 64% (both included) in the current semester is not eligible to Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) write the examination in current semester subjects but is permitted to continue his / her studies in the next semester provided that this is the first time that the candidate earned attendance between 50% and 64%. Else Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) the candidate has to discontinue the course and re-join in the same semester in the next year with proper approval of the Registrar. However, the candidate is eligible to write arrear subjects Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) if any.


d. A candidate who has secured less then 50% of attendance in any semester will not be permitted to take the regular examination and to continue the study in the Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) subsequent semester. The Candidate has to redo the course by rejoining the semester in which attendance is less than 50% with proper approval of the Registrar.


^ 6. Restriction to take the Examination



  1. A candidate having Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) arrear paper(s) shall have the option to appear for the examination in the arrear paper(s) along with subsequent regular semester papers.




  1. A candidate who fails in any of the papers shall Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) pass the paper(s) concerned within 5 years from the date of admission to the said course. If the candidate fails to do so, he/she shall take the examination in the Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) revised text syllabus, if any, prescribed for the immediate next batch of candidates. If there is no change in the text/syllabus he/she shall take examination in that paper Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) with the syllabus in vogue, until there is a change in the text/syllabus.




  1. In the event of the removal of the paper consequent to the changes of Regulations and or / Curriculum Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) after a 5 year period, the candidate shall have to fulfill the requirements as per the changed regulations/ curriculum for the award of the Degree.


^ 7. Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)


The internal Assessment for each Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) paper (Theory / Practical / Project Work) shall be 40%. The distribution of marks shall be as stated below:

^ 8. End Semester Examinations (ESE)


  1. Theory


There shall be single valuation for all the papers.


b. Practicals


There shall be Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) combined valuation. The pattern of distribution of marks shall be as given below.

Experiments : 40 Marks

Record : 10 Marks

Viva-voce : 10 Marks

Record Notebooks for Practical Examination


Candidate taking the Practical Examination should submit Bonafide Record Notebook Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) prescribed for the Practical Examination. Otherwise the candidate will not be permitted to take the Practical Examination.


In case, a candidate fails in Practical Examination, the marks awarded for the Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) record at the time of first appearance for the Practical Examination should be мейд available by the University to the Examiners at the subsequent appearance by the candidate.


c. Project


The marks awarded Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) for project shall be as follows


Project : 200 marks (Internal 80 + External 120)


The project work shall be evaluated by the two examiners - Internal Examiner (Guide) and External Examiner (Nominated by the University). The External valuation of Project and Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) Project Viva–voce shall be a combined valuation.


In case the guide is not available, the Head of the Department shall act as the Internal Examiner.


^ 9. Minor Project


The Report Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) of Minor Project (100 marks) shall be a combined evaluation by the HOD and the External Examiner.


10. Passing Minimum


A candidate shall be declared to have passed in a paper when he/she secures Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) not less than 50% of marks in that paper. A student shall be declared to have passed the whole examination if he/she passes in all the papers in all four semesters.


The Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) passing minimum in Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) shall be 20 out of 40 and in End Semester Examination (ESE) shall be 30 out of 60.


^ 11. Classification of Successful Candidates


A student who passes all the papers Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) in the first attempt within a period of three years and securing 75% or above in aggregate shall be declared to have passed in the First Class with Distinction.


A candidate passing the MCA Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course), Degree Examination, securing 60% marks and above in aggregate shall be declared to have passed the examination in the First Class. All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) the Second Class.


^ 12. Conferment of the Degree


No candidate shall be eligible for Conferment of the Degree unless he/she has undergone the prescribed course of study for a period of not less than Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) six semesters and has passed the examinations as have been prescribed thereof.


13. Ranking


A candidate who qualifies for the degree course by passing all the papers/subjects in the first attempt, within Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) the minimum period prescribed for the course of study from the date of admission to the course and secures First or Second class shall be eligible for ranking and such ranking will be Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) confined to a maximum of 5 ranks of the total number of candidates qualified in that particular batch.


^ 14. Supplementary Examination


Supplementary Examination will be conducted only for the final semester students Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) within ten days from the date of publication of results for students who have failed in only one paper. Students shall apply with prescribed fee to the Controller of Examinations within the date announced Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course).


^ 15. Transparency and Grievance Committee


Revaluation and Retotalling are permitted on representation by paying prescribed fee.


The students may get the xerox copy of the answer script on payment of prescribed fee Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course), if they wish. The student may represent the Grievance, if any, to the Grievance Committee, which consists of Director of the School, (if Director is HOD, the Director of another School Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) nominated by the University), HOD of the Department concerned, the course teacher and Dean / Director from other discipline nominated by the University and the COE. If the Committee feels that the grievance Curriculum Format for Post-graduate degree program (Three year course) is genuine, the script may be sent for external valuation; the marks awarded by the examiner will be final. The student has to pay the prescribed fees.
